Mary [Day 2012]

I was at a kid’s birthday party today and ran into my friend Rick and his daughter Mary. Shooting children (oy, that’s a bad phrase when taken out of context) can be pretty tricky. They don’t hold still and often don’t want to look into the camera, but when it works out, it tends to be extra cute. Like when Mary here had a great smile for me!

Patience is usually the trick. And making sure that you’re peeking out from behind the camera occasionally so that they have someone to smile at. (The camera itself, especially a big DSLR, can be pretty intimidating.)
