D&D [Day 2028]

I may be a photographer, but I’m also a total geek on the side. Yep, I’ve been known to play some Dungeons and Dragons on occasion. It’s been awhile though. But with the new 5th Edition coming out this year, I’ve just had to check it out. Picked up the new boxed Starter Set last week and was able to start running a game this evening for some friends.

I was really happy with how it went! The system is nicely streamlined with much less of an emphasis on raw tactics like the last edition had, which allows things to be much more fast and furious. I also liked that the Starter Set characters have some simple, but effective backgrounds to help get the players into the spirit of things. After some fun character and adventure introductions, we got right into the action with a first encounter that involved some rather sneaky goblins managing to get the drop on the player characters. I had some good die rolls that nearly knocked out half the group, but they sprang back with a vengeance and are now taking the fight to the goblin’s hideout.
